The BBA method
Tannin colour and organic load are not the same thing. Preparation depends on the material, and natural biofilm or gradual breakdown can be expected without making every product suitable for every aquarium.
Dark colour alone does not explain how much decomposing material a tank can safely support.
Rinsing, steeping, boiling and soaking are product-specific steps, not one rule for everything.
Give filtration, oxygen and livestock time to respond before adding more material.
Floating, biofilm, softening and decomposition can be normal; context decides when to pause.
