The BBA Method

Prepared botanicals, gradual additions and calm observation.

BBA helps customers build botanical aquariums with patient husbandry, written guidance and honest expectations instead of instant water-parameter promises.

Trust principle

No instant miracles. Build the tank in a way livestock can keep up with.

BBA does not promise instant water-parameter miracles. Botanicals should be prepared, added gradually and observed.

Safe botanical routine

The method behind the store.

Use this as a calm starting framework before choosing leaves, pods, starter boxes or support products.

01

Prepare safely

Rinse dry botanicals and hot-steep or boil pieces where suitable. Let everything cool completely before it enters the aquarium.

02

Add gradually

Start with a small amount, especially in nano tanks, shrimp setups and soft-water aquariums. More can be added after the system responds well.

03

Observe 24-72 hours

Watch livestock breathing, grazing, hiding, water clarity, smell and filter response before adding the next layer.

04

Stable livestock first

Do not use botanicals to cover an unstable setup. Test water, check oxygen, keep up with maintenance and avoid sudden heavy organic loading.

05

Natural variation is normal

Leaves, pods and wood pieces vary in shape, colour, size, tint strength, floating time and breakdown speed. That is part of working with natural material.

06

Do not chase instant pH changes

Tannins can colour the water, but botanicals do not reliably lower GH, KH or pH on command. Stability and water testing matter more than chasing a number.

07

Biofilm can be normal

A pale film on new botanicals is common and can be useful grazing for shrimp and snails. Remove pieces that smell rotten, turn mushy or cause livestock stress.

08

When to stop adding

Pause if water clouds heavily, oxygen looks low, livestock gasp, the tank smells sour, pH/KH shifts quickly or the filter cannot keep up.

09

When to contact BBA

Ask for written guidance if you are unsure about tank size, livestock fit, preparation, first dosing or which starter route is gentlest for your setup.

Guided next step

Turn the method into a safe route.

Use the BBA Method as the rulebook, then choose a route, check what normal changes look like and avoid buying if the tank is not ready.

Before you add more

Know what is normal, and know when not to add botanicals.

Good botanical aquariums are built through observation. These two pages help customers avoid panic, overloading and unrealistic expectations.
