BBA Worlds

Six New Worlds to Explore — Eleven Habitat Journeys at BBA

I have added six new Worlds to Blackwater Botanical Aquariums, bringing the collection to eleven. Explore a habitat that catches your eye, compare its different approaches and follow the links into species care, practical construction guides and suitable materials for your own setup.

A lush freshwater aquascape with branching driftwood, green planting, open sand and a small shoal of fish beneath clear water.

Small inhabitants, richly detailed habitats

Shrimp Aquarium World explores planted colonies, specialist shrimp habitats and the surfaces that make a small aquarium interesting. Snail Aquarium World offers separate planted, river, Sulawesi and substrate-led approaches, with links to the existing care profiles.

These are choices to explore, rather than a community to copy. Warm, mineralised Sulawesi conditions and soft-water specialist setups have different requirements; start with the animals you intend to keep.

Planting, roots and room to swim

Freshwater Aquascaping World brings together planted compositions, a gentle stream, a low-tech aquarium and an epiphyte woodscape. Compare how open space, wood, stone and planting change the feel and practical upkeep of each layout.

Betta World looks beyond a single familiar silhouette, connecting planted domestic betta aquariums with wild forest-water habitats, peat-swamp specialists and mouthbrooding species. The linked profiles help you choose conditions and housing for the particular fish.

Discus and the life of a rocky riverbed

Discus World combines broad roots and open swimming space with existing Heckel and Brown Discus care guides. It also includes my own F1 Blue Heckel × Cuipeua discus feature and photograph, alongside four different habitat approaches.

Rocky Rivers & Pleco Habitats World explores current, oxygenation, stone, wood and useful shelter. Its separate approaches connect to pleco, Ancistrus and goby guidance without treating every river fish as a leaf-litter blackwater inhabitant.

From an inspiring scene to a considered plan

Each new World offers four habitat approaches, relevant species profiles, practical reading and real BBA products selected for their role. Follow the connections to compare materials, preparation and the needs of your chosen inhabitants before building.

All five earlier Worlds remain available, and the Knowledge Centre still contains 159 free-to-read materials. Choose your next World below, then use the connected guides to turn the idea into a practical plan.
