Build the route
Build a staged pods, cups and leaf-litter route
Use the pack as a measured mixed botanical route, adding the contents in stages rather than all at once.
Product story
Blackwater Botanical Pack – Pods, Cups, Nuts & Leaf Litter in use
A balanced botanical starter pack for shrimp tanks, bettas and natural freshwater aquariums, combining pods, cups, nuts and leaf litter to create structure, hiding spots, biofilm grazing surfaces, gentle tannins and a warm blackwater-style tea tint.
Why aquarists use it
Shrimp tanks, Neocaridina and Caridina setups
What it does
It gives the aquarium structure, hiding points, leaf texture and grazing surfaces when added gradually.
What it does not do
It is not intended to be added all at once in every aquarium and does not replace stable husbandry.

Essential details and safety
Use slowly, observe livestock and avoid chasing instant changes. BBA product pages are guidance for careful aquarium use, not veterinary or medical advice.
Preparation notes
- Rinse everything under clean water before use — no soap or chemicals. Optional: pre-soak for 12–24 hours to help sinking and give a gentler start. Add botanicals gradually, especially in small tanks or very soft / low-KH water. White biofilm can appear early on; this is normal and often eaten by shrimp and snails. For faster sinking, pour hot water over the pods and leaves as a quick blanch, allow everything to cool fully, then add to the aquarium.
Safety notes
- For ornamental freshwater aquarium use only.
- Botanicals are natural habitat and enrichment tools, not medicines.
- Not for human consumption.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Natural products vary in size, shape and colour.
- Botanicals may release tannins and soften the visual tone of the water.
- Effects vary by tank depending on KH, pH, aquarium volume, filtration and how many botanicals are used.
- No instant pH promise and no livestock treatment claim.
- Remove if livestock show stress.
Habitat visual story
A botanical aquarium should feel lived-in, not empty
These visual cards explain the habitat world around this product. They are separated from the product gallery above, so customers can distinguish the item from its ecological role.
Pods break up the floor with natural structure.
Edges and hollows create small shelter points.
Texture darkens into the botanical layout.
Surfaces invite grazing and investigation.
Method reminders
Prepare, add gradually, observe
How should this be introduced?
Prepare as appropriate, add a small amount first and watch livestock and water clarity for 24-72 hours before adding more.
Is natural variation normal?
Yes. Botanical and prepared aquarium products can vary in size, colour, shape, texture, tint and breakdown speed.
Does this guarantee water parameter changes?
No. The BBA method is deliberately careful: products can support a route, but they do not promise instant pH, GH or KH results.
