Build the route
Build a large botanical shelter route
Use the sheath as a larger natural shelter or structure piece, then keep surrounding additions measured and easy to observe.
Product story
Palmyrah Male Sheath (Borassus flabellifer) – Large Botanical Shelter in use
Large Palmyrah Male Sheath botanical pieces, approx. 30–35cm, used as natural statement cover, shelter and biofilm surface in larger shrimp, betta, botanical and blackwater freshwater aquariums.
Why aquarists use it
Large shrimp tanks and established shrimp colonies, Bettas and small peaceful fish
What it does
It adds cover, shape and habitat character when introduced as part of a measured layout.
What it does not do
It is not a reason to overload a small aquarium with several large structure pieces at once.

Preparation preview
- Rinse before use. Do not use soap or chemicals.
- Optional: pre-soak for 1–7 days to help sinking and reduce the initial tannin release.
- Add gradually in smaller tanks, very soft water or low-KH systems.
- Position safely so shrimp, fry and fish can explore without becoming trapped.
- Some pieces may float at first and sink later.
- Remove or replace if the piece becomes damaged, trapped with debris, or unsuitable for your livestock.

Method reminders
Prepare, add gradually, observe
How should this be introduced?
Prepare as appropriate, add a small amount first and watch livestock and water clarity for 24-72 hours before adding more.
Is natural variation normal?
Yes. Botanical and prepared aquarium products can vary in size, colour, shape, texture, tint and breakdown speed.
Does this guarantee water parameter changes?
No. The BBA method is deliberately careful: products can support a route, but they do not promise instant pH, GH or KH results.
