Build the route
Build a bark tube shelter route
Use bark tubes as visible structure and cover, then add leaf litter or tannin support only if the setup stays stable.
Product story
Catappa Bark Tubes – Indian Almond Bark Hiding Tubes in use
Catappa Bark Tubes are natural dried Indian Almond bark tube pieces, approx. 7–9cm, used as botanical hiding tubes, shelter caves, biofilm grazing surfaces and natural blackwater detail in shrimp, pleco, fry, betta, biotope-style and botanical method freshwater aquariums.
Why aquarists use it
Shrimp tanks and shrimp colonies, Caridina and Neocaridina shrimp
What it does
It supports a more natural, observed aquarium route when introduced gradually and used alongside stable husbandry.
What it does not do
It does not replace stable husbandry, diagnose livestock problems, cure disease or promise instant water-parameter changes.
Product role
Where this product fits
Use this section to understand where this product belongs in a safer aquarium route, without guessing or adding too much at once.
Best for
Good route for
Use with
Leaf litter, pods, cholla wood and other shelter structure. Do not add too many hard structures at once in a small layout.
Before adding
Essential details and safety
Use slowly, observe livestock and avoid chasing instant changes. BBA product pages are guidance for careful aquarium use, not veterinary or medical advice.
Preparation preview
- Rinse before use. Optional: pre-soak for 1–7 days to help sinking and reduce the initial tannin release. Add gradually, especially in soft water, low-KH systems or smaller aquariums.
Safety notes
- For ornamental freshwater aquarium use only.
- This is a natural botanical habitat item, not a medication.
- Not for human consumption.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Natural pieces vary in colour, size, shape, opening, thickness and texture.
- Approximate size range is a guide only.

- Remove if livestock show stress.
Shared habitat visual system
A botanical aquarium should feel lived-in, not empty

Edges and hollows create small shelter points.
Texture darkens into the botanical layout.
Surfaces invite grazing and investigation.
Method reminders
Prepare, add gradually, observe
How should this be introduced?
Prepare as appropriate, add a small amount first and watch livestock and water clarity for 24-72 hours before adding more.
Is natural variation normal?
Yes. Botanical and prepared aquarium products can vary in size, colour, shape, texture, tint and breakdown speed.
Does this guarantee water parameter changes?
No. The BBA method is deliberately careful: products can support a route, but they do not promise instant pH, GH or KH results.
