Build the route
Build a planted root-zone route
Use buried root tabs as a planted-tank support item, separate from leaf litter, pods and visible botanicals.
Product story
Aquarium ROOT TABS 14-14-14 in use
Balanced 14-14-14 NPK root fertiliser capsules for planted aquariums, designed as a separate standard root-tab listing from ROOT TABS PRO.
Why aquarists use it
Cryptocoryne / Crypts, Echinodorus / Amazon Swords
What it does
It supports the substrate root zone when buried properly and used conservatively for the tank size and planting density.
What it does not do
It is not a water-column quick fix, should not be opened, and should not be left exposed in the aquarium.

Essential details and safety
Use slowly, observe livestock and avoid chasing instant changes. BBA product pages are guidance for careful aquarium use, not veterinary or medical advice.
Preparation preview
- Use tweezers or planting tongs to push each capsule deep into the substrate, around 3–4cm down, close to plant roots.
- For new setups or planted zones, use a grid method of roughly 1 tab every 12–15cm.
- Very densely planted areas may need closer spacing, around 10cm.
- Large heavy root feeders such as big Amazon swords can benefit from multiple tabs placed around the base.
- Do not open the capsule; bury it whole.
- If any granules become exposed, remove visible pieces and place future tabs deeper.
- Avoid heavy substrate disturbance after placing root tabs.
Safety notes
- For ornamental planted aquarium use only.
- This is a fertiliser product, not a medication.
- Not for human or animal consumption.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Wash hands after handling.
- Always bury tabs deep under the substrate.
- Do not open the capsules.
- No instant pH promise and no livestock treatment claim.
- Remove if livestock show stress.

Method reminders
Prepare, add gradually, observe
How should this be introduced?
Prepare as appropriate, add a small amount first and watch livestock and water clarity for 24-72 hours before adding more.
Is natural variation normal?
Yes. Botanical and prepared aquarium products can vary in size, colour, shape, texture, tint and breakdown speed.
Does this guarantee water parameter changes?
No. The BBA method is deliberately careful: products can support a route, but they do not promise instant pH, GH or KH results.
