Build the route
Build a staged shrimp colony route
Use the starter box as a measured shrimp-focused route, adding the contents in stages rather than all at once.
Product story
Shrimp Colony Starter Deluxe – 60–100L in use
A rich natural leaf-litter starter pack for one well-stocked 60–100L shrimp tank, or for sharing between several nano aquariums. It combines Catappa and mulberry leaves, alder cones, Bakuli pods, eucalyptus botanicals, lotus pods, banana leaf pieces and a bell cup to build gentle tannins, grazing surfaces, hiding spots and a more natural shrimp colony habitat.
Why aquarists use it
Well-stocked 60–100L shrimp tanks, Caridina and Neocaridina shrimp colonies
What it does
It supports a more natural, observed aquarium route when introduced gradually and used alongside stable husbandry.
What it does not do
It does not replace stable husbandry, diagnose livestock problems, cure disease or promise instant water-parameter changes.

Where this product fits
Use this section to understand where this product belongs in a safer aquarium route, without guessing or adding too much at once.

Use with
Shrimp biofilm support, mulberry leaves, cholla wood and light grazing food. Treat the box as a staged route, not a one-day full-tank addition.
Before adding
Essential details and safety
Use slowly, observe livestock and avoid chasing instant changes. BBA product pages are guidance for careful aquarium use, not veterinary or medical advice.
Preparation notes
- For a 60–100L shrimp tank, start with around half the pack and add more gradually over several days to a week. Watch shrimp behaviour and water tint, then increase or decrease the amount to suit the aquarium. Rinse all botanicals before use; optionally pre-soak leaves and pods in hot water for 15–30 minutes to help them sink. Top up or replace botanicals every 4–6 weeks, or as they are consumed and broken down. A thin white biofilm on new botanicals is common and is usually grazed by shrimp.
Safety notes
- For ornamental freshwater aquarium use only.
- Botanicals are natural habitat and enrichment tools, not medicines.
- Not for human consumption.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Natural products vary in size, shape and colour.
- Botanicals may release tannins and soften the visual tone of the water.
- Add gradually, especially in smaller tanks or very soft / low-KH water.
- No instant pH promise and no livestock treatment claim.
- Remove if livestock show stress.
Habitat visual story
A botanical aquarium should feel lived-in, not empty
These visual cards explain the habitat world around this product. They are separated from the product gallery above, so customers can distinguish the item from its ecological role.
Leaf litter becomes part of the tank floor.
Broken shade helps cautious livestock feel secure.
Natural tones make the floor feel settled.
Surfaces invite slow grazing and inspection.
Method reminders

How should this be introduced?
Prepare as appropriate, add a small amount first and watch livestock and water clarity for 24-72 hours before adding more.
Is natural variation normal?
Yes. Botanical and prepared aquarium products can vary in size, colour, shape, texture, tint and breakdown speed.
Does this guarantee water parameter changes?
No. The BBA method is deliberately careful: products can support a route, but they do not promise instant pH, GH or KH results.
