Maturity and stability matter.
Young, unstable or recently disrupted aquariums are not the right place for a heavy first addition. Establish the aquarium before building organic load.
Shrimp aquarium route
Choose leaves, grazing surfaces, pods, wood and specialist support by the role they play in a shrimp aquarium. Start with the tank's stability and livestock needs, then add natural materials gradually.
Shop by role
The current BBA Shrimp route contains 129 supported products. These five groups come from the same catalogue authority used by the Shop, not a separate product list.
Curated starting points when you want a balanced route rather than unrelated items.
Supplementary foods, slow-grazing formats and feeding support for suitable shrimp.
Leaf litter, natural grazing surfaces and biofilm-focused materials.
Natural cover, texture, shelter and surfaces that shape the aquarium layout.
Water, plant and filtration products for a specific, understood aquarium need.
Before you choose
Botanicals can add grazing surfaces, cover, structure and natural breakdown, but they do not replace stable water, suitable feeding or observation.
Young, unstable or recently disrupted aquariums are not the right place for a heavy first addition. Establish the aquarium before building organic load.
Leaves, foods and sachets add organic material. Begin with less in nano aquariums and pause if clarity, smell or livestock behaviour changes.
Do not add a full mixed pack simply because it is supplied together. Start with a small selection and observe before adding more.
Do not treat any botanical as a guaranteed way to control pH, GH or KH. Respect the aquarium's buffering, mineral balance and current parameters.
Rinse, steep, boil or use sealed only where the individual product directs. One preparation method does not fit every natural material.
Feed lightly, observe what is consumed and remove excess where instructed. Biofilm and grazing products are not permission to overfeed.
Beginner route
Use the guided Finder with your aquarium size, livestock and goal. It narrows the route without pretending every shrimp aquarium needs the same products.
