They are especially useful in shrimp tanks, blackwater aquariums and botanical method setups, where natural leaves are valued for appearance, biofilm grazing surfaces and gentle shelter for shrimp, fry and small fish.
They may gradually release tannins and humic substances, helping contribute to a warmer blackwater-style appearance. The effect depends on tank volume, KH, pH, filtration and quantity used.

How to use Rinse all leaves in fresh water before use. No boiling is required. Optional: pre-soak in hot water for 20–30 minutes to help the leaves sink and soften for shrimp. Add gradually rather than introducing too many botanicals at once, especially in smaller aquariums. Place directly on the substrate, tuck around wood and roots, or combine with cones and pods for a natural botanical layout.
Important notes Natural products vary in size, shape, texture and colour. Some leaves may float at first and sink later. Pre-soaking can help. As the leaves mature in the aquarium, they may soften and develop biofilm, which many shrimp and grazers enjoy. Carbon filters, Purigen and aquasoils may reduce visible tannins and water colour. This is a natural botanical product, not a medicine. For ornamental freshwater aquarium use only. Not for human consumption.

PREPARATION & SAFETY
Best for
Low-pressure botanical layouts where the customer wants a natural leaf-litter surface, not a rushed water-parameter change.
What it does not do
It does not cure livestock issues, replace filtration or guarantee specific water-parameter outcomes.
PREPARATION
- Rinse all botanicals thoroughly before use. Do not use soap, detergents or household chemicals.
- If needed, pre-soak harder pieces for 1–7 days to help them sink and to reduce the strongest initial tint.
- A white or translucent biofilm may appear as botanicals begin to soften. This is a normal part of botanical decomposition and is commonly grazed by shrimp and snails.
SAFETY
- Add botanicals gradually, particularly in small aquariums or very soft, low-KH water.
- Natural pieces vary in size, shape, colour and texture.
- Botanicals are not a treatment and do not guarantee a specific pH, GH or KH change.
- Remove or reduce botanical material if livestock show signs of stress.
- For aquatic and naturalistic hobby enclosures only. Not for human consumption. Keep unused material away from children and non-target pets.
- Individual botanical pieces are not a complete substrate or complete diet for enclosure animals.

What should I expect?

Is this right for every tank?
